Fieldtrip, followed by hot drink, Grace O'Sullivan MEP on the Nature Restoration Law and Music
Meet at car park at old sea bath Sandymount strand for expert led discovery of South Dublin bay Natura 2000 site and Biosphere reserve low tide fieldtrip which ends at Merrion Gates where an intertidal seagrass bed is struggling to survive.

About the event
After signing in and group photo join a scientist led fieldtrip group:
(i) Table set for wintering birds: What birds from where, would love to eat when. How do people and dogs interfere? Patrick Veal and Eanna Hyland (both Coastwatch & Birdwatch)
(ii) Why is this strand protected? Discover features Lorraine Bull, Biodiversity officer Dublin City
(iii) A new dune/lagoon/saltmarsh system is developing and implications. Karin Dubsky Coastwatch and Katherine Duff, Ecologist
(iv) Identifying, monitoring and tackling pressures on the Merion Strand seagrass bed. Rita Hagan, Coastwatch
Routes depend on shore bird usage. Bring warm clothes. Wellies/water shoes for groups (iii)& (iv).
In FOUL WEATHER the fieldtrip part will have to be cancelled, but you are welcome to join fieldtrip leaders from 2.30 pm in the Maldron Hotel and discuss different fieldtrip topics, with coffee and scones, then back to main program from 3.20 pm.
