Inshore Marine Protected Areas

Seminar organised by Coastwatch Ireland and Coastwatch Spain in cooperation with the European Commission and Parliament offices Dublin for inshore fishermen, scientists, elected representatives, government officials, environmental groups and media. The meeting will start with the new EU ''Blue Plan'' policy and financial frame, homing in on the role of MPAs. In the key note address Prof. Jose Luis Sanchaz Lizaso presents MPAs designated to protect biodiversity and birds (Natura 2000 sites), as well as MPAs set up for fisheries protection. The roles of fishermen in setting up MPAs is highlighted.
