Coastwatch Europe is an international network of environmental groups, universities and other educational establishments, who in turn work with local groups and individuals around the coast of Europe.

The coordination teams in individual countries give information, education, training on waste management, Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and habitat protection for both general public and specific user/regulatory groups.

It all began twenty years ago when the Dublin Bay Environment Group was formed to highlight rising water pollution problems and lack of coastal zone management. The group's first conference was held in Dun Laoghaire on Dublin Bay, an outstanding Natural Resource at risk. It was well covered by the media and focussed official minds on overdue sewage treatment. The Dublin Bay Environment Group became the Irish Coastal Environment Group and then Coastwatch, as the group's scope expanded.

Coastwatch Europe is an environmental group which protects wetlands by raising public awareness of their values, and demonstrating practical ways to save them.
